District 20: Ang Mo Kio / Bishan / Thomson, Singapore

Introduction

Initially, Ang Mo Kio was designated as an industrial area housing motor workshops, but the plans were modified to include areas for homes and communal amenities. HDB flats were built in the 1970s, and today Ang Mo Kio is a residential town. In the same Central North region is the Bishan and Thomson area. Bishan has a rich war history, being the site of several battles in WW2. In the early 70s, the government invested in revitalizing the area into a residential town. During this process, over 26,000 residential units were built.

Shopping malls in the Bishan/Thomson area include The Junction 8 Shopping Centre, The Bishan North Shopping Mall, Thomson Plaza, Thomson V One and Two is a residential complex that comes with a mall featuring shoebox-sized retail units on the ground floor and basements. Thomson Imperial Court and Sin Ming Plaza, are residential complexes with retail outlets on the ground floor and basement. Midview City. In the Ang Mo Kio area, shopping malls include AMK Hub, Jubilee Square, Dijitsun Mall, and Broadway Plaza.

Like many other popular destinations in Singapore, this area is easily accessible by many MRT stations including Yio Chu Kang, Ang Mo Kio, and Bishan. There are also various bus stops and taxi stands throughout the area.
